Washed once in plain water so it arrives soft, then folded into a cloth bag.
Khadi is spun by hand on a charkha and woven by hand on a pit loom, so the yarn is uneven on purpose: that slub is what makes the cloth breathe and drape the way mill cotton never does.
Ours comes from a certified khadi unit outside Ahmedabad, 210 gsm, unbleached and then washed in plain water. Expect a little shrinkage on the first wash, which the sizing already allows for.
A straight, regular fit that skims rather than clings, ending at the knee. The chest measurement in the size guide is the kurta's, not yours: pick the size whose chest is four to six inches more than your own.
Between sizes? Go up. Khadi does not stretch.
Hand wash cold with a mild soap, and dry in shade. Iron on medium while it is still slightly damp.
The first two washes will shed a little unbleached fibre; that is the cloth settling, not wear.
- Will it shrink
- By about half an inch in length after the first cold wash. The sizes are cut to allow for it.
- Is the white really white?
- It is an unbleached natural white, a shade warmer than paper. The cream and sand shades are dyed with natural dyes.
- Can I get a pyjama to go with it?
